On The Go With Joe!

"On The Go With Joe" Channel 12 news

What a wonderful week!

On Tuesday, Ruby Cakes Bakery was on Channel 12 for 7 segments of the "On The Go With Joe" morning broadcast.

It was so much fun, and what a great guy Joe V is! He was really great at necessary nerve calming.

We taught Joe how to frost cupcakes the Ruby Cakes way and "Who can fill the muffin tin the fastest" segment was hilarious.

One of the segments involved little kids frosting cupcakes and Channel 12 highlighted our wonderful play area as well.

Amy clad the whole crew in matching blue dress shirts and even overcame her "on camera" fear and really knocked it out of the park!

Not sure how we will come down from our 15 minutes of fame, kind of hoping we can extend it a little bit like our friends The Happy Huffmans have.

Wednesday morning we were back to baking bright and early and are really looking forward to all the green that is filling our cases in preparation for St. Patrick's Day.

Good stuff.

Ruby Cakes and Joe V - Perfect Together!

What a whirlwind the last couple of days have been. We have spent every moment at the Sip! Classic Wine and Food Fest at the Evergreen Museum in McMinnville, Oregon.

Such fun!

For Sip! we created mini cupcakes and infused them with wine from Terra Vina Wines.

Deliciously decadent.

But the best was the first morning of Sip! we were interviewed by Joe V from Channel 12. Joe does a Joe On The Go segment where he travels to locations and reports on all the interesting goings on. It was super fun and nerve wracking at the same time.

Joe must have thought we killed it though because on Tuesday he is coming to Ruby Cakes Bakery and will be broadcasting his whole entire show from the shop!

All six segments... at Ruby Cakes...OMG!

If you are in town please come down and get some sweets and maybe be on TV too!

We Are Back and Baking!

Finally taking time to blog again!

Ruby Cakes Bakery has been open for a little more than 2 months and all we have to say is - wow!

These past couple of months have brought us through the holiday season and into the New Year and the ride has been completely exhausting in an exhilarating kind of way!

Dominique and Ruby Cakes were lucky enough to be featured in Sunset Magazine - what a cute couple!

Ruby Cakes also celebrated Valentines Day with Youtube viral video stars - Bruce and Esther Huffman. They are just as adorable in person... and boy does Bruce know how to work a room!

Birthday cake orders continue to pour in and every day seems to bring new experience, challenges, and opportunities!

Our Facebook page is up and running and we will continue to make it more robust with recipes, stories, and lots and lots of pictures. Working on enhancing the website as well (it is amazing how there always seems to be something more to do!).

Now that we are somewhat settling into a routine, we hope to blog at least once a week to document the ups and downs and ins and outs of this fantastic journey.

Gonna also try and pump up the blog as time goes on with tips and tricks, recipes and pictures and maybe even a music video or two (totally not kidding - wait for it!).

We also love it when people send us their recipes, ideas, comments, etc. so please hop on over to our Facebook page and share!

Some Important Changes

As with any new venture, things are often tweaked based on customer response and what is best for the bottom line.

By popular demand, starting next week Ruby Cakes will be making it's own powdered sugar, so we will then become corn free! I have also decided to bite the bullet and get rid of all nuts. I was using almond flour in a few things but this was a quick fix, and I have also adjusted some of my future cookie recipes to use seeds in place of nuts. I look forward to seeing more happy faces each week!

However, due to unfortunate circumstances, I have been unable to come upon a reliable source for both dairy free and soy free margarine that will work for my small business, aka, keeping costs down while still maintaining quality. So based on customer response, I will stay dairy free and go with a margarine that contains soy. I only use margarine in my frosting, some of my cookies, and from time to time in a cake recipe, but this is rare. Grapeseed only is the main oil in my cakes. The margarine I prefer to use is SmartBalance Light Blend, a choice I feel pretty good about since it is non-dairy, gluten free, vegan, non-hydrogenated and trans-fat free.

I look forward to hearing your comments and serving you more yummy treats soon!
